Dunster High Street & Yarn Market

We have put together a guide book in each room and there are walking guide books available for guest to borrow in the bar. The Exmoor National Park Visitor Centre is located in Dunster and they are pleased to help you plan your stay. On the second Wednesday of every Month we have a folk night at the Stags.


  • Exmoor National Park
    A great site with a very detailed events search function and walking guide.
  • Dunster Castle
    Just two minutes walk from our door. Dunster castle is opened to visitors but the main building is closed for much of the winter, the gardens however are opened all year. Events are held throughout the year and are advertised on their site.
  • Dunster Forest
    This is owned and managed by the Crown Estate. There are excellent cycle trails, walks and bridleways throughout the forest. The printed version of this guide is available from Exmoor visitors centre in the village.
  • Dunster Beach Holidays
    A five minute drive or a fifteen minute walk from our door. A private sandy beach with a nature reserve, putting green, tennis courts, shop & takeaway, bicycle hire & toilets.
  • West Somerset Railway
    This steam railway runs from Minehead to Bishops Lydeard. There is a station on Dunster Marsh which is a five minute drive or a fifteen minute walk away. The railway host a large number of events throughout the year including the Somerset Beer Festival and Thomas Tank Engine visits.
  • The Quantocks
    Thee were the first place in England to be designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The area has many walking and mountain biking trails.
  • Cistercian Abbey of Cleeve
    About a fifteen minute drive from us, is a haven of peace and tranquility, said to contain the finest cloister buildings in England.
  • Torre Cider Farm
    A fifteen drive from our door and opened all year. See how Somerset cider is made, there is also a an animal farm, tearoom & deli.
  • Exmoor Owl & Hawk Centre
    A fifteen minute drive from us this attraction features an all weather Owl display during the season. You can also learn to handle and fly birds of pray. Horse and pony riding is also available.
  • The Regal Theatre
    This theatre showcases some impressive local talent as well as hosting touring shows.
  • Butlins, Minehead
    A ten minute drive from our door. Day visitors pay at the entrance for access to the indoor sub-tropical waterworld with flumes and waves and other attractions. There is also an excellent crazy golf course, high ropes course and ABC Cinema on site showing all the latest releases.

  • Active Exmoor

  • Exmoor Wildlife Safaris
    Off road adventure to track down red deer, Exmoor ponies and other wildlife. Trips depart from Dunster.
  • The Wavely
    The last seagoing paddle steamer in the world. Please see the site for details of it’s day cruises from Minehead.
  • Wimbleball Lake
    It’s around a 20 to 25 minute drive from us. Tuition in various water sports activities including sailing, windsurfing, canoeing and rowing. Visitors can also launch their own craft or hire one from the centre. Wimbleball is also a premier trout fishery offering angling from the banks and boats. There are also a number of walks around the lake.
  • Minehead Golf Course
    This 18-hole, 6153 yard, par 71 course is a 5 to 10 minute drive from us. The course displays the best characteristics of links play with some moor land features.
  • Exmoor Pony Centre
    This centre offers the chance for you to ride native Exmoor ponies either under cover or in an escorted group across the moor. Exmoor ponies are one of the world oldest breeds and are very well natured. Children as young as four are welcome.
  • Burrowhayes Farm
    Located a short drive from us this stables offers escorted rides for all members of the family, novice or experienced.
  • Alykat
    Purpose built sea fishing boat available for charter from Minehead harbour.
  • South West Coast Path
    This path starts from Minehead and heads west across Exmoor.
  • The Coleridge Way
    A walk from the Quantocks to Exmoor.

Festival & Markets Links

There is a Farmers Market on Minehead Parade every Friday between 8.30 am and 2.30 pm. There is an occasional Farmers Market held at Dunster Castle.

  • Dunster Show
    Held on the third Friday in August each year. Lots to see and do for all ages.
  • Exmoor Food Festival
    Held in October with events in Dunster and throughout Exmoor.
  • Dunster by Candlelight
    Always held on the first full Friday and Saturday in December (Accommodation for this event is usually booked up two years in advance)
  • Exmoor Walking Festival
    The Exmoor Walking Festival site. Events are held throughout the year.
  • The Two Moors Festival
    This Classic FM festival is held in venues across Exmoor & Dartmoor including Dunster. It takes place at the beginning of October.
  • Minehead Raft Race
    One of the countries largest raft races. Held in August each year.
